THE MEETING WITH FINLAND

In my previous imagination, the area of Finland was completely devoid of sunny or warm days.

All time I had kept away from the idea about traveling to this north country, but the turning point came when I read the subject
- Homo Erectus -
for sculpture symposium in Haukivuori. It seems me very interesting and I thought if Homo Erectus had visited Finland why I couldn’t do the same.

That subject was the new source of inspiration for me.

Above all I tried to imagine the life of Homo Erectus in this cold land with the darkness days and also with the days get rid of darkness night.

Finally my inspiration for sculpture came from the idea that Homo Erectus must have left many signs in the soil, on the rock or on the tree when he was traversing across Europe and that we do the same. I presume so Homo Erectus lost also many thinks on their route, like me in my life and that I decided to leave the evidence of my being in Saksala.

First of all, I chose a big tree as a symbol of nature and made in bark a many holes with the rivet in the middle of their. I arranged this holes in regular intervals to do a kind of pattern. Creating a MAKE UP for the tree the process was very important because I familiarized myself with him. That’s why I felt guilty of assaulting a nature by working with machine and with drill but I wanted to beautify by putting my traces, admittedly the traces of civilization.

Secondly very important process will be time which needs my tree for recovering from this holes, from this wounds.

Obviously! I didn’t injure my tree seriously, only for MAKE UP what many people were made everyday.

I left near my tree in Haukivuori one thing more. It is my WOODEN COAT.
I put it for luck because I believe that one time I come back to see my tree.

Haukivuori gave me a sunny welcome.  I am very grateful for creating my sculpture in Saksala and I am particularly impressed by the hospitality of people who I met in bright sunshine of Finland. -
